THANK YOU: Thank you so much for a very good beginning to the 2010-2011 school year at Harris. Although there will always be small glitches and problems as we begin any year, this beginning has been an especially smooth one. MID-SIX WEEKS REPORTS: Students will receive the first of the Mid-Six Weeks Progress Reports on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. The first six weeks ends on Friday, September 24, and Report Cards will be sent home on Tuesday, October 5. Thursday, October 7 is a staff development day for teachers only, and Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held the afternoon and evening of October 7, from 2:30 until 8:30 PM. Please be reminded that the school calendar is printed on the back of the student agenda. STUDENT ATHLETES: We are most proud of all of our student athletes at Harris. The football and the girls’ soccer teams have provided us with very exciting games thus far. STUDENT COUNCIL: The HMS Student Council is busy getting organized for the school year. Students who were eligible have turned in their applications to be representatives. The remainder of the Student Council Officers will be elected during the first week that we return from the horse show. HARRIS AFTERSCHOOL TUTORING: Harris Middle offers an after school tutoring program for those students who are in need of extra help with a particular skill in an academic area. This program is funded by a federal grant and has specific guidelines that must be met. The program is not designed as a time for students to work on homework. If a student has a deficiency in a specific academic area, then he/she may be recommended by a teacher. Parents may also call the school to inquire about tutoring services that are available. Space in the HMS Tutoring Program is limited due to the number of teachers that we have working after school and are filled on an as needed basis. The Harris phone number is 931-684-5195 and we invite your phone calls. SES TUTORING: Another federal program offered by Harris is the SES Tutoring program for our students after school. If your students are eligible for this program, you will receive a letter in the mail concerning the SES Vendor Fair on Monday evening, September 13, 2010. This vendor fair is designed for parents to select a tutoring program for eligible students. FOOTBALL HOMECOMING: The HMS football homecoming will be held on Tuesday, September 28th. The ceremony will be held prior to the football game that evening at Central’s field where the HMS Eagles will be taking on Franklin County South. |
