3501                         Art I                                                           Open to all students

Art I is a study of art interrelating aesthetics, art criticism, art history, and studio production.  Students use a variety of art materials for drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpting, working in clay, and crafts.  A materials fee is charged.

 

35021                       Drawing                                                   Teacher approval upon completion of Art I

In this class drawings emphasizing good composition, value contrasts, color, harmony and linear perspective are developed. Materials include pencil, charcoal, conte, oil pastel, pen and ink, chalk, and felt tip. Techniques include contour, gesture, drawing from life and imagination, and commercial illustration. Subjects include people, animals, still life, landscape, plants, and fantasy.  A materials fee is charged.

Studio painting includes an in-depth study of painting techniques and styles, color theory, and harmony. Subjects include still life, landscape, animals, people, plants, and fantasy. A materials fee is charged.

 

35031                       Sculpture                                                 Teacher approval upon completion of Art I

In sculpture, the elements and principles of three-dimensional design are explored with emphasis on good craftsmanship and creativity in original designs. Materials used include paper, wire, yarn, fabric, clay, wood, and metal. Techniques are abstract and representational. A materials fee is charged.

 

35032                       Clay                                                           Teacher approval upon completion of Art I

Studio clay includes wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques, including coil and slab construction, carving, and relief.  Emphasis is on craftsmanship and creativity. A materials fee is charged.

 

3515                         Art History                                             Open to all students

Art History is a chronological study of art from prehistoric through contemporary times.

 

3520                         Theater Arts                                           Open to all students

Theater arts students learn skills and develop individual talents in the many areas of dramatic arts. The student participates in performing, makeup, costuming, directing, and using props. This is a performance and production-based class requiring active classroom student participation.

 

3530                         Instrumental Music                             Approval of instructor

Band is a performing organization for students interested in instrumental music.  Performing groups include the marching band, concert band, and jazz ensemble.  Opportunities are also available for individual participation in clinics and workshops.  Participation in band requires after school practice and performance.
