Special Education
Special Education services are provided in a variety of settings. Eligibility for each level of service is determined by an IEP-Team (Individual Education Plan-Team) decision and by mandated state and federal regulations. For each student receiving special education services, an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed by an IEP-Team which addresses individual student strengths and weaknesses as well as educational, vocational, and transitional needs. Appropriate classroom placement is then determined by IEP-Team decision.
Students who meet criteria for consultation/direct services are placed in regular education classes. The special education staff provides consultation opportunities to the regular classroom teacher to aid in designing and implementing an individualized program for the student including appropriate materials and instructional strategies. Such consultation is provided through direct contact with the classroom teacher.
The resource program is designed to provide modified educational opportunities to students who meet defined criteria. Placement in resource level classes is optimal for the student whose learning style/ability demands a more structured and smaller-sized classroom. The overall goal within the Resource curriculum is to strengthen and enhance reading skills/comprehension and reasoning skills.
