ACADEMIC PROFILE
SCHEDULING AND CREDIT POLICY:
Class Load: Every student must register and be enrolled in a minimum of five credit-earning classes. (Some cooperative learning classes earn multiple credits and count as more than one class.) Study Hall: No student may register for more than one study hall (unless taking a 7:00 class). Drop & Add: Students may drop or add a course only during the first ten days of a semester. During this drop and add period, only necessary schedule changes approved by the administration will be made. Drops or adds after the deadline will be granted only in cases of extreme hardship and must be approved individually by the principal.
GRADING SYSTEM:
Advanced Placement and Honors Courses: As incentive for the added course work and more rigorous grading, Honors courses add three points to the each six weeks average. Using the same rationale, Advanced Placement courses add five points to each six weeks average.
CLASS RANK: The top academic students will be determined at the end of the seventh semester. Students are ranked by GPA order on a 4.0 grade point scale.
SCHOLARSHIPS: Numerous scholarships are available to SCHS students planning on attending college. These scholarships come from numerous sources, and some may require specific qualifications or attendance at specific institutions. Colleges may also require specific information such as unweighted GPA’s. Information concerning all scholarships available to SCHS graduates is available in the guidance office. Students must observe all deadlines for applications and required documentation in order to be considered for a particular scholarship.
NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. This test is taken during October of the junior year. Semifinalists and finalists are announced during students’ senior year.
Over the past three years, Shelbyville Central has had · one semi-finalist · three commended scholars · one finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship Program

PLANS AFTER GRADUATION: SCHS strives to prepare students for the appropriate post-secondary environment. In addition to college admission information, the guidance office can assist students in developing plans for technical training, entering the work force, or entering the military.
