Migrant Education Services

Summer Program Only

Serves as liaison between home, school, and community.

•Translates system correspondence, and forms to Spanish language.

•Distributes information and makes referrals to the health clinic and other agencies as needed.

•Assists school programs to help reduce educational gaps as a result of frequent relocation of the family.

•Recruits eligible migrant children and fills out certificate of eligibility for each.

Requirements For No Child Left Behind

In order to meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind [Section 1111(h) (6)] concerning parents’ right to know, you are formally being notified that as a parent of a child attending a Title 1 school you may  request information regarding your child’s teacher, including, at a minimum: (1) whether the teacher has met the State requirements for licensure and certification for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction; (2) whether the teacher under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; (3) the college major and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree; and (4) whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications.

Release of Student Information to Military and College Recruiters

Recognizing the challenges faced by military recruiters, the No Child Left Behind Law [Title IX, Part E, Subpart 2, Section 9528] requires high schools to provide the military recruiters, upon request, access to names, addresses, and phone numbers of high school juniors and seniors.  The law also requires high schools to release information to colleges or other higher education institutions, upon request.

If parents of eligible students (18 years old) do not want to disclose this information, you must notify us in writing.

Victims of Violent Crime/ Right To Transfer To Another School

The No Child Left Behind Law [Title IX, Part E, Subpart 2, Section 9532] requires parents receive written notification if their child should become a victim of a violent crime at school and that he/she has the right to transfer to another school within the LEA.

Professional Development

The professional development component of the LEA’s consolidated plan [Title I, Part A, Subpart1, Section 1119]: addresses how all teachers teaching in core academic subjects within the State are highly qualified no later than the 2005-2006 school year.  All Paraprofessionals working in a program supported with funds under this part shall have met a rigorous standard of quality and have demonstrated that by attaining a passing grade on a formal State assessment test.

Target Assisted Schools Eligibility For Schoolwide Status

In order to meet requirements of the No Child Left Behind Law, parents of students enrolled in eligible Title 1 targeted assisted schools should be informed of the school’s eligibility for schoolwide status.  As of school year 2007-2008 the target assisted schools eligible for schoolwide status are:  Harris Middle School, Liberty School, and Cascade Elementary.
