Dr. Robert Ralston Announces Retirement

After more than three decades of dedicated service in education, including 27 years as principal of Community High School, Principal Dr. Robert Ralston has announced plans to retire at the end of the school year.

Throughout a distinguished 33-year career, Ralston has been a steady and inspiring presence, shaping the lives of countless students, supporting generations of educators and helping guide Community High School with a clear vision of excellence and care.

Reflecting on his time at Community High School, Ralston shared, “Some of my standout memories are from both the first day of school and from graduations. Personally defining have been all the times I have been at games and events with my family, taking in the life of Community High School. Extra meaningful was when my sons were a part of the life of this school.”

During his tenure, Dr. Ralston has been instrumental in fostering a strong school culture built on high expectations, meaningful relationships and a commitment to student success. He has worked closely with staff, students and families to ensure that Community High School remains a place where all students are supported and challenged to reach their full potential.

When asked what he will miss most, Ralston said, “The social interactions with my entire staff, who truly are more family than co-workers. That is everybody from teachers, support staff, custodians, bus drivers, students and the entire Community community.”

Ralston also reflected on the accomplishments that stand out most over the course of his career, noting,

“Being a part of the building programs for Community High were huge. The first new high school building, the second (present) high school and then the new wing. Coupled with that are the new instructional programs and staff that we experienced with the buildings. These were, and still are, sources of great pride for our community.”

Superintendent Dr. Tammy Garrett expressed deep appreciation for Dr. Ralston’s years of leadership and service.

“Dr. Ralston has left a legacy of positive impact on Community High School and this district. His commitment to students, staff and the community has been unwavering. We are grateful for the leadership, stability and care he has provided for nearly three decades as principal. He will be greatly missed, and we wish him all the best in a well-earned retirement.”

As he looks ahead to retirement with a legacy of service stretching out behind him, Ralston’s advice to the next principal is steeped in student care and family support.

“Kids will always be kids. Treat them as you would treat your own kids and how you would like to be treated. Make sure your family understands that the role of future leader impacts your entire family. I have been blessed to have a spouse, Carla, and sons, Stone and Gage, who have supported me throughout my entire career.”

Community High School and the entire district extend sincere gratitude to Dr. Ralston for 33 years of service and leadership, leaving a legacy that will continue to positively impact students and staff for many years to come.
