Our students are gaining invaluable career insights through hands-on experiences! #ShelbyvilleCentralHighSchool student Louis Floyd recently completed a job shadow at NewsChannel 5 Nashville, coordinated by Senior Meteorologist Lelan Statom, where he explored the world of broadcast journalism and meteorology.

During his visit, Louis:

📺 Observed live news broadcasts;

📝 Sat in on production meetings;

🌦️ Learned from reporters, producers and meteorologists;

📊 Explored cutting-edge forecasting technology;

🎓 Received guidance on college pathways and career development.

#ThankYou to the Stars College Network at Vanderbilt University for partnering with us to create these transformative learning opportunities for our students!

This is the kind of authentic, career-focused experience that prepares our #students for success. 🚀

Recently, #student leaders from across #BedfordCountySchools joined peers from across the state for the Tennessee School Boards Association Student Congress on Policies in Education (SCOPE),🗣️✨ an event dedicated to elevating student voice in public education. 📚💡

This year’s SCOPE brought together high school #students to examine the real challenges facing public schools in Tennessee 🏫. Through mock school board sessions and spirited debates ⚖️🗳️, students stepped into the roles of decision-makers, parents, educators and community members to explore solutions and share their perspectives. 💬🌟

Last week, these amazing students were recognized at our school board meeting, and we couldn’t be more proud of their professionalism, insight and #leadership 👏. Their willingness to speak up and engage in meaningful conversations shows just how bright the future of public education truly is.🌟

👟✨ BCS Stepped Up—and You Did Too! ✨👟

Recently, we partnered with #Soles4Souls to host a district-wide shoe drive to collect NEW and GENTLY USED shoes to support people around the world, and because of your generosity, BCS collected an incredible 651 pairs! 👏✨

These shoes will support the Soles4Souls’ 4OPPORTUNITY program, which helps people in countries like Haiti, Honduras and parts of Africa create small businesses selling shoes and clothing to earn a living.

We are excited to partner with Soles4Souls, who has generously donated new, brand-name athletic shoes through their 4EVERYKID program, helping #BedfordCountySchools McKinney-Vento #students.

From our classrooms to communities across the globe, your kindness is making a real impact, one step at a time. 🌍👟#ThankYou, BCS, for stepping up and showing what it means to give back! ❤️

🧬 From Strawberry to DNA! 🍓

Students in instructor Karra Garrett's Biology class at #ShelbyvilleCentralHighSchool, recently took science from the textbook to the lab. During a hands-on activity, #students broke down strawberry cells and successfully extracted visible DNA.🔬

🍓Strawberries contain a large amount of DNA, making them the perfect organism for this exciting lab! Watching genetic material appear right before their eyes made for a memorable moment of discovery and a great example of learning through exploration.🧪🔍
