Kindergarten Registration FAQs

See below frequently asked questions and answers for kindergarten registration. If you don't see your question here, call the Board of Education at 931-684-3284.

The student must be 5 years old on or before August 15.

If a child will be five (5) years of age on or before Sept. 20, the parent or guardian may request, in writing to the superintendent, that the child be admitted to Kindergarten. Upon a request, the school district will administer an evaluation and examination.  If the results indicate the child is sufficiently mature emotionally and academically, then the child may be enrolled in Kindergarten.

Kindergarten students don’t start school on the first day.  They will have a staggered phase-in schedule from Aug. 5-16, and parents will be informed at registration when their child will come to school during the phase-in days.

Yes, Kindergarten students may ride the bus. There is a transportation form you must fill out. Please let your child’s teacher know that you are interested in your child riding the bus. This is also the information you will receive during Open House. Please make sure you and your child attend the Open House. Kindergarten students may ride the bus to school during the phase in days, but they must be picked up by a parent from Aug. 5-16, because there is no half-day bus transportation.  Parents will learn at registration when the half-day dismissal time will be.
