Benefit of Hope

In the fall of 2022, motivated by multiple mental-health related tragedies of school-age children in the county, the Youth Leadership Bedford Class of 2023 decided to do something. They chose to organize an effort to help remove the stigma surrounding mental health, to bring awareness to the resources available, and to raise money for counseling services grants. In the spring of 2023, this group of 20 students and their three adult leaders hosted a benefit called the Benefit for Hope that raised over $30,000. These funds will be used for Bedford County individuals, 21 years of age and under, who are seeking counseling services. Funds will be administered on an as needed basis as determined by an approved mental health services provider. The Benefit of Hope funds are managed by the Shelbyville-Bedford Community Foundation, a 501C3 organization, and a designated grant liaison.

The SBCF is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to be a catalyst to connect people with causes and to raise, manage, and distribute funds for initiatives that enhance learning and improve the quality of life and place for the community of Shelbyville-Bedford County. The foundation works collaboratively with the public and private sectors to expand and enhance the relationship between community, industry, and local government and to identify and fund projects that can address and positively impact the quality of life and place for citizens of Shelbyville and Bedford County.
