 Tennessee State Standards..Getting it Right

K-5 Bedford County Instruction is moving forward.

Teachers will be teaching Math and English Language Arts(ELA) through the Tennessee State Standards in 2017-2018.

What are Tennessee State Standards?

The Tennessee State Standards provide a clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them.

What is different about Tennessee StateStandard teaching?

  • Building knowledge through content-rich nonfiction
  • Reading, writing and speaking grounded in evidence from text, both literary and informational
  • Regular practice with complex text and its academic language

  • Focus strongly where the Standards focus
  • Coherence: Think across grades, and link to major topics within grades
  • Rigor: In major topics pursue conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency, and application with equal intensity
