Shelbyville Central High School’s audio/visual program received a generous boost this week thanks to a $6,000 donation from Duksan Electera, a Bedford County company investing in student creativity and future careers.
The contribution will help the A/V class and club purchase new equipment for their student-run Golden Eagle internet radio station and build out an enhanced editing bay—key components of the school’s growing media production program.
On hand for the check presentation were members of the SCHS administrative team, led by Principal Charlie Pope, media teachers, and audio/visual students. They were joined by Duksan Electera representatives General Manager Killian Yang and CEO Jin Kang Yim, Bedford County Mayor Chad Graham, and Chamber Director Dana Rodriguez.
“We are very happy to have local businesses like Duksan help us with our vision of media production education,” said Teacher Neal Gordon who leads the A/V program. “Our internet radio station is an instrumental step in communications with our parents and the community at large.”
The Golden Eagle station gives students real-world broadcasting and production experience while expanding the school’s ability to share events, celebrations and daily news. Assisting with the program is fellow teacher Alec Kounlavong, who helps guide students through radio operations, editing and on-air communication skills.
“It is our goal to share all the great things happening at Shelbyville Central and our school system in general,” Gordon added. “This program will give hands-on experience for our students in all areas of communication.”
Shelbyville Central High School expressed sincere thanks to Duksan Electera for its partnership and commitment to supporting student learning. The school noted that the donation will have a lasting impact on both the A/V program and the students who are building skills for the future.
