Juniors and seniors at Shelbyville Central High School recently had the opportunity to learn how the financial decisions they make today can shape their future.
Nolan Barnes, Vice President and Loan Officer at First Community Bank, spoke with students in Mrs. Savage and Mrs. House’s classes about finding their WHY, making their money work for them and learning how to reach long-term financial goals by starting at an early age.
He also shared tips and examples on how starting at an early age can help students work toward reaching their long-term financial goals.💡💵

Ms. Melody Redd’s Teaching as a Profession II (TAP II) students and FCCLA members from Shelbyville Central High School are gaining valuable hands-on experience at Southside Elementary School while making a difference for young learners! ❤️
Through weekly job shadowing, students assist mentor teachers in various classrooms. They also partnered with kindergarten teachers Ms. Feck & Ms. Melson to celebrate National Be a Teacher Day, an event designed to spark interest in #education as a future career. To prepare, TAP II students designed and created their own teaching-themed shirts! 👕🍎
During the event, #students read books about teaching, helped kindergarteners explore the qualities of a great teacher and led a fun game of “Principal Says” to help students practice listening, communication and following directions. The kindergarteners also received teacher-themed goodie bags! 📚🎁
TAP II students and FCCLA members also donated shoe-tying practice tools and specially designed shoelaces to help kindergarteners develop this important skill. In December, they plan to host an ice cream party to celebrate students who have learned to tie their shoes and give them a chance to show off their accomplishments! 👟🍦

Shelbyville Central High School HOSA – Future Health Professionals students recently brought their healthcare knowledge and skills to approximately 170 first graders at Cartwright Elementary School and Eakin Elementary School!
Under the direction of instructor Becky Davis, HOSA #students led hands-on lessons focused on the human body, including learning how to check a pulse and listen to a heartbeat, practicing age-appropriate CPR skills, learning when to call 911 and exploring a variety of healthcare careers. 🫀🩺🚑
The HOSA students also shared handmade coloring books, stethoscopes, heart bandages, PPE stickers and health-related fidget spinners with the first graders. 🎨❤️
By sharing what they have learned, these future health professionals are helping younger students build important skills for emergencies while also giving them an early look at the many possibilities within healthcare careers. 🌟

🌟 Student Voices. Student Perspectives. Student Leadership. 🌟
The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council recently gathered at the Bedford County Schools Central Office to kick off another year of #student #leadership, conversation and collaboration! 💬✨
With both returning and new members joining the council, #students had the opportunity to get to know one another through an icebreaker question: “If you could instantly become really good at one thing, anything at all, school-related or not, what would you choose and why?” Their answers sparked some fun conversations and gave students a chance to learn more about the peers they’ll be working alongside throughout the year.
Students also met with Superintendent Tim Harwell, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Sandy Sorrells, Assistant Superintendent of Operations Neil Watson and Director of Communications Carol Garrette. They then toured the Central Office to learn more about the different departments and how each one supports BCS schools and students.
Throughout the school year, these student leaders will have opportunities to share their perspectives, provide input on district matters and help ensure that student voices are part of the conversation. 🗣️⭐
We’re looking forward to hearing what this group has to say and seeing the impact their voices will have throughout the year!

The Golden Eagles Marching Band delivered another strong performance Saturday at the Indian Nation Invitational at Montgomery Central High School in Clarksville!
In a highly competitive field of 15 bands, the Golden Eagles earned:
🏆 1st Overall in Music Ensemble
🏆 1st Overall in Music Effect
🥈 2nd Place Band in Class AAA, just one point away from 1st place
🏅 5th Overall among all 15 bands
The band also earned its highest scores of the season so far, with students receiving Superior ratings in both the Composition and Achievement portions of both music categories.
What an accomplishment for the Golden Eagles Marching Band! 👏💙💛
The band will take the field at Austin Peay State University on October 17, marking the first college stadium performance for these students. 🏟️🎶

BANANAS. 🍌🎶 Yes… BANANAS! And somehow, our 4th graders turned that one word into a song!
Our #EakinElementarySchool 4th graders took songwriting to a whole new level during an unforgettable field trip to the Country Music Hall of Fame! 🤠🎵
With the help of local songwriters, students brainstormed, collaborated, and transformed one unexpected word into an original tune that had everyone singing along:
🎵 “Bananas, bananas, I love you a bunch...
Bananas, bananas, you appeal to me…” 🎵
And let's just say… that catchy chorus followed us for the rest of the day! 😂🍌
Students also had the opportunity to learn about inspiring artists and explore the evolution of country music - from classic country to today’s sounds - right here in Music City.
What an incredible experience to show our students that writing isn't just about putting words on a page. Writing can be music. Writing can be collaboration. Writing can be fun. ❤️🎶
