🚢🏆 Engineering Challenge Accepted! 🏆🚢

Rising 4th graders in Mrs. Woods', Ms. Stewart's and Ms. Gochee's classes at #EakinElementarySchool's Summer Learning Camp put their engineering skills to the test with a boat-building challenge this week!

Using only aluminum foil, #students designed and built boats that could float while holding as much weight as possible. They then tested their creations in water, adding linking cubes to see which design could hold the most weight before sinking.💧

The competition was fierce, and the winning boat held an impressive 51 linking cubes! 🎉👏

Through hands-on learning and problem solving, students explored engineering concepts while putting their creativity and critical thinking skills to work. 🚀✨

🐾🚓 K9 Officers in Action! 🚓🐾

Students from #CascadeElementarySchool and #CascadeMiddleSchool's Summer Learning Camp recently had an exciting visit from Officers Brock Horner and Dylan Bliss along with their K9 partners, Trigger and Jerry.🌟

During the visit, #students learned how police dogs use their powerful sense of smell to help locate people and detect drugs during searches. Officers demonstrated how K9s can track scents in different ways, including following odor trails left on the ground and in the air.🐾

Students also learned about the extensive training K9 officers undergo, including obedience, scent detection, tracking and search work, as well as what daily life and service look like for working police dogs.

Experiences like these help students connect classroom learning to real-world careers while gaining a deeper understanding of how highly trained K9 teams support law enforcement and keep communities safe.🏫✨

🌞🌵 Bringing Habitat Learning to Life! 🌵🌞

Rising 2nd graders at #CommunityElementarySchool's Summer Learning Camp have been learning about different habitats, and recently they brought their desert studies to life with a unique taste-testing adventure!

#Students sampled Nopalitos (pickled cactus) and Prickly Pear Cactus Jam, which is made from the fruit of a cactus. After tasting each item, students cast their votes on whether they liked it or not.

The taste test sparked lots of discussion, with some students describing the pickled cactus as spicy and others saying the prickly pear cactus jam tasted like honey. 🌞🍯

Through hands-on experiences like this, students are making meaningful connections between what they learn and the world around them. These engaging opportunities reflect how public schools help students explore new ideas, deepen understanding and apply their learning in memorable ways. ✨
